TUL 021 – It’s As Easy As 1-2-3!

For the past couple of weeks on THE UNSTOPPABLE LIFE we have reflected on topics surrounding the theme of REST.  This week is no different.  It you haven’t built rest into your rhythms yet – you are nowhere near as effective as you can be.  Not just sleep – but true rest!

On today’s episode we’ll pick up where we left off.  After identifying some of the red flags of failure to rest (stress, exhaustion, lack of joy), you are primed and ready to take action.

I’ve attempted to make it as easy as possible, so I have simplified action points down to three!

  1. Acknowledge and Identify: If you can’t admit and identify the problem areas regarding rest in your life, then good luck making progress.  Start by coming to grips with where you are deficient – in all dimensions of life (spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, relational).  Be brutally honest, it will pay off in the end.  Trust me!
  2. Set goals: Duh, right?  Perhaps, but sadly most people don’t have clearly identifiable goals written down.  And, yes, WRITE THEM DOWN!  By writing them down you are 42% more likely to accomplish them!  That’s significant.  Don’t believe me?  Listen to episode 003.  Start with what has worked the best for you in the past.
  3. Review: If you don’t regularly evaluate your goals and progress you will fail!  Ask yourself specifically about each one.  Are they working?  What’s working?  What’s not working?  What needs to change?  This is where so many fail.  They fail once or twice and quit.  Remember it was a starting point.  Make adjustments, tweak.  Find what works.  BONUS TIP:  When you review, tell someone!  Be accountable, verbalize it!  You’ll again, be far more likely to succeed.

TUL 020 – A New Kind of R & R

It’s January, and the thought of a little R&R sounds oh so enticing right now!  Can you say Caribbean?  Ok, I’ll postpone the wishful thinking.

On today’s episode of THE UNSTOPPABLE LIFE we continue the discussion on the topic of REST….true rest!

If you desire to be more effective, efficient, or productive you must learn to implement rest into the rhythms of your life!

Establishing regular rhythms of rest and life giving activities will provide you with the right kind of energy and restoration that you need to excel at life.

We must learn what elite athletes have long known and regularly practice.  To run faster and further we must rest more!  So how do we do this well?

I wish there were a perfect system, one that worked universally for everyone.  Of course, there isn’t but there are common markers that serve as litmus tests for us to gauge our levels of rest.

  1. Stress
  2. Exhaustion
  3. Lack of Joy

I’ll share more extensively on each point in this week’s episode.  Once those areas are evaluated and identified you can begin to move toward a solution – creating regular rhythms.  Tune in to this week’s podcast to hear more!

I’ve learned, and honestly am still learning, that the best way to speed up in life is to slow down!  It’s paradoxical I know but it’s true.  Our American way has run far too many of us ragged and it needs to stop if we want to succeed.

If you’re serious about using this performance enhancer in your own life than here’s what I suggest you do.  It will take less than 10 minutes I promise.

  1. Stop and think:  Yep, it’s hard I know.  We don’t do it near enough.  Stop and think about the things that have brought you the most joy, peace, and energy in your life.  The kind of things that leave you feeling filled afterward, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, relationally.  The people, places, activities, experiences, etc…
  2. Write it down:  Boil them down to 3.  Write them down somewhere you can see them, paper, note app, it doesn’t matter.
  3. Do it!:  Choose one that is achievable.  Not at some point or later this year, because you and I both know life will suck that intention right on up!  Choose just one that you can put into action and/or accomplish THIS WEEK!  Yes in less than 7 days! You have to prioritize rest and be intentional about filling up the depleted accounts.

Follow those simple steps and see if you are not more successful and energized to go and live an UNSTOPPABLE LIFE!
